Partners with the OAQ
Cooperation and Emergency Architects of Canada is proud to be a partner of the Order of Architects of Quebec (OAQ), in the directed training portion of mandatory continuing education for architects. A first conference entitled ‘Cooperation and Emergency Architects: A Social or Professional Responsibility’ was given by AUC President Mr. Bernard McNamara on November 12 th, 2008, before an audience of about one hundred architects.

Recent natural disasters have sparked in many architects the desire to better define the role of an architect in emergency situations. Thanks to the experience of the organization of Cooperation and Emergency Architects, recently formed in Canada, the training aims to sensitize professionals to the physical, psychological, institutional and logistical aspects of the catastrophe.
Professional Educational Objectives:
- To sensitize to the concept of risk: geography of risk, institutional methods of acknowledgement, management and control of risk,
- To develop the strategic role of professionals in the approach and development of methods of construction and urbanization that are compatible with the risk,
- To assist populations with the notion of self-build,
- To create places of information exchange and sharing as well as education about new technologies.
It must be noted that educating our future professionals, students in architecture, about the sensitization to these problematic situations, is equally important.
